Budget Travel Program; a journey fully developed by
local professionals (requiring a little organization on behalf of the
traveler).
ROUTE: Trekking starts in Cachora; after visiting Choquequirao
the way back out is through Huanipaca (Villa Los Loros Lodge), a 30 mile
circuit.
TRAVEL PLAN
Day 1 / Cusco - Cachora – Chiquiska
Meet your muleteer at 10 AM in Cachora (get there on your own). First
campsite is Chiquiska (A 11,8 mile trek)
Day 2 day / Chiquiska - Playa Rosalina - Maranpata - Choquequirao
Today is more demanding: after crossing the Rosalina suspension bridge
(4.920 feet) a serious uphill takes us to Maranpata (9.512 feet), where
we will rest and lunch. In the afternoon two hours of easy trekking lead
to Choquequirao. (A 8 mile trek)
Day 3 / all day Choquequirao
All day visit. Back to Choquequirao campsite to sleep.
Day 4 / Choquequirao - Hacienda San Ignacio - Villa Los Loros Lodge
Our return starts, dropping down the impressive Apurimac Canyon to Playa
San Ignacio. Across another suspension bridge and continue up a trail to
Villa Los Loros Lodge. Dinner and overnight.
(A 10.5 mile trek)
Day 5 / Sunrise Valley Huanipaca
We leave Villa Los Loros after breakfast.
THINGS YOU SHOULD BRING
Hiking shoes, thick socks, short and long sleeve shirts, shorts, pants
(jeans not recommended) sun cap, coat or jacket, warm hat, insect
repellent, sunscreen, personal hygiene kit.
PACKAGE INCLUDES
Spanish speaking local guide/carrier, one night accommodation at Villa
Los Loros Lodge, three nights camping in the Archaeological Park of
Choquequirao, camping equipment (tent, mattress), 4 dinners and 4
breakfasts (Chiquisca, Choquequirao, Choquequirao, VLL lodge), 3 lunches
(Marampata, Choquequirao, Parador San Ignacio), field cook; pack mule.
PACKAGE DOES NOT INCLUDE: Transportation to and from beginning
and end of trek; 1st day lunch; Choquequirao entrance ticket (S/. 37,
S/. 18 for students with I.d.), sleeping bag.
